Christmas Eve, Christmas Brunch and Christmas Dinner all fall during the Weekly Menu 12.21.25, and we are here for it. Things are a little different this year, what with the OG Baby Boy being married to his darling soul-mate, but some things stay the same. The whole week revolves around food.

I’ve freely admitted that I’m a bit of a cookie monster at the holidays.

My cookie list includes 10 cookies and sweets, and I held back. I swear – early and often, but I digress – I did decide to make one, and only one, batch of each. I might need to make another batch of Seven-layer Bars because I made that first, and they WENT. All the cookies probably mean we don’t need the Baby Jesus Birthday cake. I suppose you don’t ever need cake. The tradition with the cake is that it gets skipped more often than not, although it always sounds fantastic when I make the menu up. My hack? I buy a Pepperidge Farms White Coconut Cake and leave it in the freezer. If we aren’t feeling it, it stays in the freezer.

Christmas has morphed over the years~

Christmas Eve we go to early mass then head home for a mini-open house. We’ll have Potato Leek Soup and Ox Roast Sammies along with some easy appetizers. And beer and cookies, a combination that is much better than it sounds. We close out the night with Bert reading both “The Night Before Christmas” AND his version, which he has been crafting for the last couple of months. It has the same cadence as the original story, but is very topical. It is never not entertaining, and is usually side-splitting.

On Christmas Day we spend more time than I’ll admit watching “A Christmas Story”. We’re usually all still in our new Christmas jammies at our big Christmas brunch. We eat ham and spuds for dinner. (We’re usually showered by then.) What are your favorite Christmas Traditions?

The Weekly Menu 12.21.25 reels it back a bit for the rest of the week.

Honestly? Christmas week is so busy with seeing all the important people that the meals that we do have on the menu are probably more wish than reality. But we’ll forge ahead. When I presented this week’s menu (which I do every Friday), I was informed that Baby Boy plans to meet up with a few different friend groups for dinner. Do I follow along with the plan or take a better offer? (There’s always room for Texas Roadhouse.)

One thing that’s probably non-negotiable is the Hot Ham & Cheese Sliders. We use dinner rolls from Sam’s stuffed with ham and a variety of cheeses (cheddar, Swiss, provolone) and spreads (honey mustard, chipotle mayo, regular mayo). Then we wrap two or three of the little sandwiches in foil and bake at 425 degrees until melty and awesome, about 10 minutes. They’re a classic (at least around here) for a reason.

It’s a great food week. Yum.

The house is all decked out, and you have cookies for days. Now is an excellent time for an Open House.
