Epic Italian Green Beans Cheer On The Flag

Epic Italian Green Beans Cheer On The Flag

Italian Green Beans are green (duh), red (peppers) and white (Parmesan cheese/onions) just like the Italian flag, and all around delish. Green Beans are my favorite veggie, bar none.

I even like the boiled in butter variety you sometimes get on a church buffet.

Green Beans also happen to be a crowd pleaser, which is why making them into a casserole (but not THAT casserole) is a no brainer.

This easy side is also quick to put together. You can make it earlier in the day to free up some time (and burner space) when you are making a fun Italian dinner; pair it with Baked Chicken Parm or Crumbled Sausage Hoagies . It also goes great with burgers or steaks, and it’s a nice addition to Christmas themed meals too, because – green and red baby.

Core and slice a red pepper and an onion, smash a piece of garlic and saute them together in a couple tablespoons of olive oil. Salt & Pepper to taste.

These veggies are going to cook a little longer in the oven, so don’t go too far – 7 or 8 minutes should do it.

They are Italian Green Beans, but…

I use a bag of the “French Style” frozen beans for this. I know. It seems wrong somehow. You can use the little “new green beans” too, but I don’t think they’re as good here. Spray a pretty casserole dish (affiliate links follow – see disclaimer page for details) with cooking spray and add the beans and the peppers & onions, tossing them altogether. Add a little more salt & pepper so the beans are seasoned too.

They already look fabulous, but they get better: sprinkle with the Parmesan cheese:

And bake at 400 degrees for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and brown. If you are baking something else at a different temperature, plan accordingly: this dish can easily cook for 20 minutes at 350 or 5 minutes under the broiler.
