Father’s Day Menu 2018

Father’s Day Menu 2018

This is Bert’s 22nd Father Day (!), and every one has been special and well deserved. We have always celebrated in a pretty low key way, with gifts leaning more towards the homemade “gift certificate” than the expensive glitzy toys. We were watching TV last night and a commercial came on for grill tools. Seriously? That would be like giving me a vacuum cleaner.

We’ll most likely do something as a group – golfing if the weather cooperates, a movie (if all of us can agree on one) if it doesn’t. Regardless, celebrating Dad is the plan, and this easy, low key dinner works best as it will enhance the day instead of interfering with it.

This menu includes a couple of old favorites as well as a shot at a first time recipe that hits all the right spots for Bert: it’s pasta salad, how bad can that be? We’re mixing up the burgers a bit (literally) by incorporating chunks of cheddar into the ground beef before we make it into patties. Chunks work better than shredded cheese as you can still taste and see the cheddar when the burgers are cooked.

I don’t know if the Italian Cream Cake is authentic, but it is both a family favorite, and a requested menu item (by the honored guest, no less) which is enough for me.

Happy Father’s Day to all the fabulous Dads out there, and a special shout out to DOLD; wish you could be here with us.  ♥
