What is going on during the Weekly Menu 02.11.24? SUPER BOWL! MARDI GRAS! ASH WEDNESDAY, VALENTINE’S DAY! If that doesn’t deserve a “Hoo Doggy” I don’t know what does.

Where’d I come up with Hoo Doggy? Saturday AM, Bert and I watch cooking shows instead of the news while we’re having our coffee/tea. Unfortunately, my shows don’t really start until 7:00 am. Before that, all that’s on beside Shark Infomercials is The Beverly Hillbillies. And I already have a Shark Vacuum. (Don’t judge – it actually works great.)

I’m a smidge young to remember when Jed and his kin were actually airing on TV, but I do recall them from reruns. The nuances are very different than I remember, although the show in general is still as annoying. For instance, back in the day, I didn’t recognize the crazy crush that Miss Jane (played by the wonderful Nancy Kulp) had on Jethro. Did you know that she served in the military? Makes sense, doesn’t it? And Granny was actually only sixty years old when the show started, with Jed actually being fifty-four. Anywho, on to the fabulously busy week ahead.

Let’s start from the top, shall we?

SUPER BOWL LVIII happens on Sunday.

I’ve included our menu below, but check out this post if you need some ideas to pick and choose from. Kansas City is up against San Francisco again, so there are a variety of city related ideas. I’ve picked my favorites for Sunday, including a hot dog bar, because it’s been a hot minute since I had an H’ dog, and it’s time.

When it’s not in the middle of one of the busiest food weeks of the year, we go ahead and celebrate, but this year we’re sticking with the tried and true Chicken Fra Diavolo. We did celebrate big during 2020, and you can check out the full menu here. It’s a little homage to one of my favorite cities in the world, New Orleans.

WEEKLY MENU 02.23.20

VALENTINE’S DAY peaks around the corner on Wednesday.

Valentine’s Day Breakfast was a huge deal when the boysies were still in grade school, and it’s still my favorite way to celebrate this day. Eating copious amounts of chocolate and handing out Valentine’s Day cards to each and every member of your class is really the way to go.

VALENTINE’S DAY BREAKFAST

If you do want to celebrate with your sweetie, and don’t want to go out to dinner (smart) check out our backwards dinner. Here’s a hint: dessert comes first!

ROMANTIC DINNER AT HOME

We don’t have a big post about Ash Wednesday, because the way we normally “celebrate” it is via Mac and Cheese, which is how we’re planning on breaking the fast this year too. This Mac and Cheese is pretty special though. I originally saw the video for it on Facebook, and it’s such a good recipe that it has become a favorite part of our Thanksgiving Dinner.
