WEEKLY MENU 04.12.26

Being totally cool, we’re having a “watch party” for the big ‘game’ during the Weekly Menu 04.12.26~

What are we watching during the Weekly Menu 04.12.26? The Masters Golf Tournament! There’s seriously NOTHING more relaxing than watching someone else play golf on TV. I play golf, but I do it poorly. Seeing that little white ball go where it’s supposed to is refreshing.

Unlike our boys, who started playing in grade school, I started playing golf when I was twenty-three or twenty-four. My bestie is a long-time golfer, and she took me under her wing, giving me plenty of helpful hints along the way. I kept my eye on the ball, bent my knees, and kept my elbow(s?) straight. I had a beautiful set of purple golf clubs that came with a matching purple bag. The clubs were bought based solely on their looks. I was also able to locate and buy a matching purple cooler.
The cooler was my biggest golfing problem.
I’m in my absolute best golf form when I have had one or two beers, preferably Mich Ultra. Unfortunately, once I hit the third beer, which I always do by the second or third hole, I head downhill, and I do it fast. Luckily, I hardly ever play more than nine holes, because the sheer exasperation I feel when that ball goes wherever it wants crests around the seventh hole.
I “played” in a charity golf outing a couple of years ago. To say it didn’t go well would be an understatement. It was a typical 18-hole round, but I wasn’t even the worst golfer in our foursome, so I thought it would go okay. We won lessons from the club pro because we came in last by such a margin that it was impressive. Really impressive. And I haven’t played since.
I never did take the lessons either. But I love watching.
The Masters Tournament (usually referred to as simply the Masters, or as the U.S. Masters outside North America)[2][3] is one of the four men’s major golf championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week in April, the Masters is the first major golf tournament of the year. Unlike the other major tournaments, the Masters is always held at the same location: Augusta National Golf Club, a private course in the city of Augusta, Georgia.

The Southern flair is a big part of the allure, at least for me. The course is absolutely gorgeous – it’s surrounded by azaleas and is bucolic in the extreme. We’re viewing while having classic Masters food – pimiento cheese and egg salad sandwiches are mainstays of the tournament food scene. Egg salad is not a favorite of anyone around here, so we’re incorporating the pimiento spread into an appetizer, and going with a “club sandwich” for the main. (See what I did there?) Of course, we’ll start with a John Daly (which is a spiked Arnold Palmer) or Arnold Palmers. Or lemonade.
We’re switching it up a bit this year and having an “Augusta National Pound Cake”. In keeping with the theme, it could be topped with sliced peaches, although I’ll probably go over the edge and get berries instead. Georgia Peaches are world renowned, but aren’t currently in season around here, so we’ll make do while the winner is fitted with his iconic green jacket. I often wonder if the champions wear those jackets anywhere besides Augusta, Georgia. DOLD had one, but he never played in the tourney. I got my golf skills from him.

In addition to having a watch party, we’re partying hard during the Weekly Menu 04.14.24. The OG Baby Boy has a BIG birthday this week. I’ve included a dinner suggestion for that day because we are heading out to eat. My brother shares a birthdate with the OG, so birthdays abound!
