Italian Beef Sandwiches are a five ingredient crock pot dump meal that eats like a feast – and it’s cheap too!

You dump 3 ingredients into a crock pot (affiliate link) in the morning and let it bubble away until you’re ready for it. Our Italian Beef Sandwich recipe shows how to make an outstanding sandwich (obvi), but this meat is delicious on it’s own too: low carb, it tops zoodles (spiralized zucchini) or mashed cauliflower perfectly. It’s great on top of regular pasta too – no need to get out your spiralizer (affiliate link) if you don’t feel like it.

Italian Beef Sandwiches are cheap!

We use simple stew meat for Italian Beef Sandwiches – the cheapest we can find. Take a look through the meat case – if the chuck roast is cheaper, consider buying that and cutting it into chunks yourself. You can regulate the fat a little easier that way too.

Add the beef to the sprayed crock pot (affiliate link) and pour on your favorite marinara. Use our Pasta Sauce for a simple take if you don’t want to buy a jar. Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.

Mix it all up and cook for 6 – 8 hours on low, or 3-4 hours on high. Because the beef is cut up to start, this doesn’t take near as long as a whole roast.

When the beef is cooked, shred it up. You can use a couple of forks or your potato masher (affiliate link) to speed up the process.

Slice the Italian bread into 1/2″ thick pieces and put them on a sheet pan. Cook for a few minutes until they are brown and crunchy. Turn them over once during cooking to make sure both sides are toasted.

Mound on the beef and the shredded mozzarella.

And pop them back under the broiler.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Beef Stew Meat
  • 1 cup Pasta Sauce
  • Crushed Red Pepper Flakes to taste
  • 1 loaf Italian Bread
  • 8 ounces Shredded Mozzarella

Instructions

  • Combine beef and pasta sauce in sprayed slow cooker.
  • Cook for 6-8 hours on low temperature or 3-4 hours on high temperature.
  • To make sandwiches, slice Italian bread into 1/2" thick pieces and toast under broiler until golden brown.
  • Mound beef and mozzarella on sandwich and broil for a few minutes more until the cheese is bubbly and stringy.
  • Top sandwich with second piece of toasted bread and serve with Pasta Sauce
