Calendarr

Best-sellers

These are the best-selling books of all time according to Calendarr:

  • The Bible – This book is considered the best-selling book of all time, partly due to the fact that it is also the oldest book on this list by a large margin. Billions of copies of it have been sold and distributed in various languages and editions worldwide.
  • “Quotations from the Works of Mao Tse-tung” (Mao Zedong) – Another incredibly popular book, with an estimated 800 million copies sold.
  • “Don Quixote” (Miguel de Cervantes) – A classic novel and one of the most important works of Western literature. Some sources estimate over 500 million copies of this story have been sold worldwide.
  • “The Lord of the Rings” (J.R.R. Tolkien) – This epic fantasy series, also a successful movie and video game franchise, has sold over 150 million copies and has been translated into numerous languages.
  • “The Little Prince” (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry) – This classic children’s book has been translated into many languages and has sold over 140 million copies worldwide.

I love reading~

But I’ve only read three of those, and only then because it was required. (Affiliate links follow. See Disclaimer Page for Details.) Reading books that someone makes me read makes me itchy, which is why I’m not a member of a book club.

I’m a very happy Kindle user to the point that I can’t remember the last time I cracked open a physical book. Kindle Unlimited (KU) has a great selection of my favorite genres and a low monthly fee, so I re-stock my Kindle constantly. I’m loving KU for travel books – Bert and I are taking a bucket list trip to Italy this year, and with KU, I can download these books as many times as I want. The KU books maintain all of my highlights and notes, so they’re ready for me whenever I download them.

I’m a promoter!

To get my younger siblings and our boysies to enjoy the written word, I read to them at least every night when they were small. And we’ve been invited to more than one baby shower that has asked for books as gifts, which I think is a fabulous idea. My biggest problem was narrowing down to one book! My favorite books (in no particular order) to read to kids are:

This list demands I do a re-read!

Luckily we have hardback physical books in house! I’m basing parts of the Weekly Menu 04.21.24 on a book I just finished – Restored in Tuscany: A True Story of Facing Loss, Finding Beauty, and Living Forward in Hope by Angela Correll.

The story is about a ramshackle home that the author and her husband purchase in a small village in Tuscany. I loved this book, and it made me very hungry.

Weekly Menu 04.21.24

We’ve based Sunday Dinner in Tuscany, which is no surprise. After a selection of olives and Italian cheese, we’re having a Panzanella (bread) salad, Creamy Tuscan Chicken on Garlic Mashed Potatoes and even a Cannoli Cake. Only the olives and cheese are directly referenced in the book, but the spirit of the aperitivo runs throughout.

We’re making Pops Crispy Chicken into Asian Salad on Wednesday – with a tasty looking ginger dressing, some chow mien noodles and slivered almonds. How bad can that be?

Best of both worlds on Thursday with a truly delicious Philly Cheese Steak Sloppy Joe. They’re not as sweet as regular sloppy joes, but they sure are messy!

Torta Rustica takes us back to Tuscany on Friday. The recipe is pizza with salami and potatoes. Yum.
