How to Have a Screaming Good Halloween Party
Do you want to host a screaming good Halloween Party or simply a great dinner for family and friends? This post is for you.
Halloween is on Saturday this year ~ that’s why we can (and should) celebrate big!
There’s no point in having a Halloween Party if you can’t have any fun! How do I enjoy a party I’m hosting? Make sure that everything is done in advance, and just needs to be tweaked last minute. I put appetizers on the buffet before anyone arrives, and prep the main course food for service. I prepare a little bit at a time, starting out a couple of days ahead.

The Saturday before or after promises to be a good day to get together some friends for some ghoulish fun!
Fun side note: according to Wikipedia, A ghoul is a demon or monster originating in pre-Islamic Arabian religion associated with graveyards and consuming human flesh.
Apropos that our main course is named in their honor, hmm?
When our boys were young, we celebrated the big “kid” holidays at breakfast time. Halloween was one of my favorites because it was so easy to make a themed meal. I relied heavily on a four pack of food colors to make Moldy Milk (blue), Green Eggs, and Bat Wings (frozen waffles cut in triangles) with Bat Blood (maple syrup with plenty of red). We learned the hard way that the boys wouldn’t eat some of these if they were too grossed out. (Score!)

How delicious does this Black Magic Punch look?
The Shrunken Head Cider is for the non-drinkers. Some Apple Jack Whiskey or Fireball would certainly liven this one up. Be sure to let everyone know if there is alcohol added.
This Petrified Cheese Log looks like something I’d have served for breakfast in the old days. You can sub out the blue cheese with shredded cheddar to make a slightly less noxious spread.
You can’t NOT have Deviled Eggs, can you? These are just gorgeous.
The GHOULASH is our own Hungarian Beef Goulash. A fabulously easy crock pot (affiliate links follow) recipe you can make and forget about hours in advance.
And the TWICE FIRED SWEET POTATOES are Savory Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes which are a both a delicious dish and a great color combo on the plate with the dark Goulash.
Don’t forget the SMOTHERED BRAINY CAULIFLOWER which are Smothered Cauliflower for their day job.
This Blood Orange Vinaigrette will add a fresh sweet and sour note to some slightly bitter Frize lettuce – plus it’s freaky looking!
For a party, I like fun and pretty sweets that can be set out on the buffet (with the appetizers). By the time everyone eats all these fabulous foods, they aren’t going to have room for much else.
But everyone always remembers desert (plus it’s Halloween), so it’s important.
These POISON TOFFEE APPLES are so crazy beautiful they are an automatic add to the menu:
And these MARSHY POPS or Halloween Marshmallow Pops as they are actually billed, will make a quick, easy bite.

HALLOWEEN PARTY DECORATIONS
Do yourself a favor, and stick to Black, White and a little bit of Orange for the colors for your party. They are all easily found almost everywhere, especially at this time of the year.
Black or white tablecloths for the buffet (island, table, counter, dresser…) or add this sweet Black & White Striped Runner.
Candles, candles, and more candles are the best way to go to get some awesome ambiance and stay in your budget. These black tapers, white tapers, or votive candles can be placed strategically throughout the party area. Use empty wine bottles (my preference), mason jars with sand, or even a carved out gourd. In a pinch, you can probably find holders (cheaply) at most dollar stores. The key here is quantity.

Pumpkins are pretty copious this time of year too (obvi) and make a great decoration in general but they are even better when painted:

Use cheap black and white patterned paper products from places like the Christmas Tree Shop, Dollar Tree, etc. to add a little pizazz to your table.
HALLOWEEN PARTY COSTUMES & FUN
Not everyone likes to dress up, so make Costumes optional – but have a fun vote for the best costume, the scariest… you get the idea. Winner gets to gloat. For years, I was a witch for Halloween, mostly because I made my own dress with dreamy, drapey sleeves a-la Endora, but wouldn’t you be the hit of your own party if you tried any of these:
