Erieland is on the water (shout out to beautiful Lake Erie!), so bridges are a way of life around here. I love looking at them. That doesn’t mean I have to adore being on them. Growing up, I remember being on a road trip, marveling about the absolutely HUGE bridge that paralleled the road we were on. My baby sister was kind enough to point out that we were actually on a companion bridge, 100 feet in the air. I had to close my eyes for the rest of the trip across while she giggled away.

Another advantage we have here in Erieland is our close proximity to Buffalo (and Cleveland and Pittsburgh). We head east often, because Buffalo has a vibrant and delicious food scene, great shopping and some of our best friends. Plus it’s on the way to Niagara Falls. Unfortunately, I can’t drive there, because I can’t keep my eyes open when we go over the Skyway.

What is the Skyway? It’s a 1.4 mile long, 100 foot tall bridge. It starts at the Buffalo Inner Harbor, crosses the Buffalo River and touches down again on Route 5 in the Outer Harbor. It was also built 50 plus years ago, so it is a smidge rickety, at least in my mind. (Probably not in reality.) I’m sure the view is outstanding from the peak. But I can’t 100 percent verify that.

Bridges are beautiful though, as well as functional.

The post picture shows an early morning view of the Golden Gate Bridge with fog at the end – kind of an interesting vision of life in general. None of us really know where we’re heading.

Weekly Menu 10.06.19 has a variety of cooler weather meals on it. As I sit, it’s about 38 degrees here in Erieland, so soup and stew sounds extra special good. The Guinness Braised Beef is really a jazzed up stew. We’ll enjoy the aroma as it cooks all afternoon on Sunday. If you’ve never tried our Sweet Potato Casserole because you aren’t fond of sweet sides, give it a shot. It’s totally savory – and crazy delicious. (Plus it’s really easy.)

New on Weekly Menu 10.06.19 is Cowboy Casserole, which calls for ground meat and tater tots (how bad can that be) but we’re switching out the ground meat for sausage for a little change.
