Signature Brownies: Explode the Norm!

Signature Brownies: Explode the Norm!

Explode the norm with tantalizing Signature Brownies!

Make these your Signature Brownies by adding your favorite taste treats inside and on top! Sure, you can buy a boxed mix for brownies (and we do, often) but sometimes you need to shake it up a little bit and introduce a little decadence to the end of your meal.

I have a confession to make:

I love the taste of vanilla in things that are supposed to be vanilla, like ice cream, but I don’t add it often to baked goods that aren’t predominantly vanilla flavored. Why? Vanilla is too damn expensive to be adding willy-nilly to everything, especially when it doesn’t do much for the flavor. I also run out of it quickly (most likely because I buy the smallest bottle I can find.)

Now, as you probably know, baking is more of a science than cooking. So if a recipe calls for vanilla, it probably needs that same amount of liquid added back if you’re going to take out the vanilla. What do I use? Alcohol. Specifically, super tasty alcohol, like liqueurs and schnapps. And flavored vodkas, rums and whiskeys. Seriously, the possibilities are endless.

This is what our liquor cabinet looks like:

Just kidding. I wish that’s what it looked like.

But that is what I would recommend for adding to your Signature Brownies. If you want to add a specific liquor but don’t want to buy a big bottle, then airplane size bottles are perfect for you!

Here’s a couple of suggested combinations to get you started:

Fireball Whiskey & Cinnamon Chips

Peppermint Schnapps & Mint Chocolate Chips

Dark Rum & Sweetened Coconut

Kirschwasser Brandy & Canned Cherries

Amaretto & Slivered Almonds

Kahlua or Bailey’s Irish Cream & Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans

Vanilla Vodka & Granola

Tequila & Jalapeno Potato Chips

Frangelico & Hazelnuts

Vodka & Sour Patch Kids

Scotch & Caramel Popcorn

Any Liquor & Pretzels! (Pretzels work great as a base too)

Dark Rum & Peanuts and Chocolate Chips (this is what’s pictured)

The recipe is pretty simple – they are Signature Brownies, after all. Melt the butter in a microwave safe mixing bowl (affiliate link), and add the sugar, liquor and eggs. Mix the dry ingredients in a different mixing bowl (affiliate link) then combine. Put the mixture into your favorite Brownie Pan (affiliate link) and cook. Make sure to spray the pan well with cooking spray first!

And don’t overcook them – they’re fudgier a bit under-cooked.

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.
  • In a medium microwave proof bowl, melt the butter. Add the sugar, liquor and eggs. Mix well.
  • In another bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder and salt. Add to the butter mixture and stir until just combined.
  • Put brownies in prepared pan and sprinkle liberally with your favorite add on.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. A toothpick should come away clean. Don't overcook: these are gooiest a smidge under-cooked.

Serve with a sip of the liquor you used, and enjoy! ♥
