Weekly Menu 02.10.19 throws back to the good old days!

Growing up, we didn’t have a fabulous Weekly Menu 02.10.19.

We had to wing it – and sometimes when we got home from school, the dreaded BLACK POT (affiliate link) was in the oven. It usually meant Swiss steak (blech), but sometimes it contained the holy grail – Pot Roast. Is there anything better than beef slow roasted in broth surrounded by potatoes, carrots and onions? I loved it with horseradish, although some of my siblings that were not best pleased with the black pot contents used ketchup. And a lot of it.

Hopefully we’ll have enough left over for sandwiches during the week, but I’m not holding out a lot of hope. It is really delish.

We’re sprucing it up a bit with Scalloped Onions. Yep, you read that right. Scalloped Onions. They are an easy, rich side dish that works great with Pot Roast. I’ve served them with steak, ham, turkey and pork too, and they go great with all of those as well! More on that later in the week.

Valentine’s Day is this week.

I’ve mentioned it before, but it isn’t my favorite holiday, especially to go out for. (Who decided a special, pared down dinner menu was a good idea?) We like to start the day with a fun Valentine’s Day Breakfast at home. Pizza for dinner is always a nice treat, especially mid-week, but we’re having a little “surf and turf” dinner that night – simply sauteed steak and shrimp with a last minute risotto. Fast, easy and not crazy. Which it will be out and about.
