Weekly Menu 03.03.19 Welcomes March!

Yippee! It’s time for the Weekly Menu 03.03.19 ~ March is here!! In Erieland, that indicates that we only have two more months of winter. Followed by two weeks of spring, then full on summer. Is it any wonder we live here?

We’re back in the swing of things around here, just in time for Ash Wednesday. It’s really late this year. Turns out that how it’s computed isn’t nearly as confusing as I thought:

The answer to this puzzle involved the moon.  According to Catholic.com, Easter Sunday is the first Sunday that follows the Paschal full moon – that is the first full moon after the spring equinox.  If that first full moon occurs on a Sunday, the following Sunday is celebrated as Easter Sunday.  Looking at the phases of the moon and comparing them to the calendar, Easter will always fall somewhere between March 22 and April 25.

Now that you know what date Easter will occur, you can determine the rest of the dates of Lent by simply backing up your calculations.  Palm Sunday?  That’s the Sunday before the date of Easter. Ash Wednesday?  Take the date of Easter, skip back six weeks and go back four more days to that Wednesday;  that’s the date of Ash Wednesday – the day that Lent starts. kool1017.com

So now you know.

Hence the crispy oven “fried” cod dinner on Wednesday. I’ve never had any problem eating fish or going meatless during lent – I love fish and veggies are a full on go-to. I’ve always felt that the non-fish, non-veggie eaters really embrace the spirit of lent better because of that.

I’m going to give up swearing again.

Sure, it never takes, but hope springs eternal. I’m also going to give up judging others. I wrote about this in the Evolve not Resolve post, and I’m going to bump up my efforts. It’s a good time to review how you’re progressing. Or not.

We’re showing Croq Monsier Sandwiches on Friday, which are basically French style Hot Ham & Cheese Sandwiches. They’re cafe fare in France, and unbelievably delicious. Here’s a shot of an actual sandwich, from an actual Paris cafe:

Yep. It was as big as my face.

Honestly though, we have Long John Silver’s once a year – and it’s usually the first Friday in lent. So I’ll be wiping grease off my chin as opposed to re-living the glory days of our France trip.

Voila! Here’s the Weekly Menu 03.03.19:
