Spring is starting to take hold of Erieland during the Weekly Menu 04.11.21, and we have glorious rain in the forecast.

Have you seen the reports about a dearth of ketchup? I’ll admit we panicked a little bit and grabbed three more bottles (Affiliate links follow – see disclaimer page for details.) of it at Sam’s Club the other day, bringing the total in the house to FIVE. Six if you include the bottle in the fridge. Our Weekly Menu 04.11.21 doesn’t specifically require ketchup with any of the meals, but we are a 100% “ketchup as a favorite condiment” family. We’ll need it with the oven fries on Thursday, but it’s sure to make an appearance before that.

We avoided the toilet paper hoarding that went on at the beginning of the pandemic, but, embarrassingly, we’re grabbing all the ketchup we can find. It’s not hard to see where our priorities lie. But, as so often happens lately, the media has sensationalized the ketchup shortage.

Ketchup packets are scarce.

Well, everywhere except in our fridge. Because of the increased take out that the pandemic has mandated, those little packets are tough to find. They aren’t a favorite around here. It’s tough to get a big enough puddle of ketchup on the plate unless you use a million of them. The picture on the post is of a high-brow substitute for the packets: teeny bottles. I’ve only ever seen them on room-service trays in fancy hotels. They do lend themselves to direct dipping, which is a treat.

The Weekly Menu 04.11.21 doesn’t actually list ketchup, but it’s there in spirit.

And Heinz Ketchup is the only one that gets anywhere near our table. Some condiments can be subbed out with generic (our store brand mayo is a dead ringer for Hellman’s) but ketchup is NOT one of them. Is it because Heinz is a Pennsylvania product? Nope. It’s because it’s simply the best ever. Period.

To the Weekly Menu 04.11.21!

In homage to the Masters Golf Championship, we’re starting out Sunday Dinner with homemade Pimiento cheese and crackers. Mini-peppers will be a go-with too. Pimiento cheese is a fabulous southern standard. It’s a cheese spread with roasted red peppers in it, and it’s spectacular in it’s simplicity. Worth a try if you’ve never had it. It’s perfect for noshing on while watching the last of the golfers finish up. As an aside, we’ve been stocking up on crackers from the Dollar Tree – the selection is great, and the price can’t be beat.

For years I’ve seen recipes for “Marry Me Chicken”. The story goes that it’s so fantastic, that if you serve it to your sweetie, they’ll instantly propose. I’m already taken, but we’ll see what Bert has to say about it.

We’re having an easy and delicious Pork Milanese on Monday. (I swear I’m going to get that recipe up soon.) Pork is great because it’s not chicken, but it still takes on all sorts flavor while still being light. Plus it’s super cheap. Win!

The OG Baby Boy did such a bang-up job on the Spaghetti Carbonara a few weeks ago that we just had to have it again. Guest Chef and Italian makes for a real win around here!

The Masters Pimiento Cheese is from Plain Chicken. The Marry Me Chicken is via Modern Honey. I found the Pasta Carbonara at The Stay at Home Chef. And the Instant Pot French Dip Sandwiches are from Pressure Cook Recipes.

Ketchup is technically a fruit smoothie.
