It’s Father’s Day during the Weekly Menu 06.19.22! Yippee – we’re celebrating Bert and all those fabulous Dad’s out there that show up and outperform everyday. How about some fascinating stats? I do love a good number.

These are copied from DadFixesEverything.com

  • There are 72.2 million fathers in the U.S. as of the latest U.S. Census.
  • There are about 2-4 million stay at home dads, or around 6% of American dads
  • There are approximately 95,000 same-sex households with children in the United States, roughly half being male same-sex couples
  • About 35% of same-sex families are formed through adoptions
  • Genetically, all mammals (including humans!) more closely resemble their father than their mother
  • Highly involved fathers lead to children with increased mental dexterity, empathy, lower sex-stereotype role beliefs and greater self-control
  • Dad’s fitness levels are the best indicator of fitness & bodyfat levels in adolescent children
  • Dads who play and roughhouse with their kids foster better emotional intelligence, memory, learning, morals, and ethics in children

There are a ton of scary stats out there about how kids that grow up without a father don’t do as well. The main take-a-way is that Dads are super important! Luckily, we’ve got Bert, and I had a great Dad too – read all about DOLD here. Bert’s Dad is also still involved (and a little cantankerous) so all the boysies get to enjoy the benefits of that too.

Sure, it’s a couple years ago, but this is one of my favorite pictures of Bert and the boys.

What are we doing to celebrate?

Check out our Father’s Day Menu Plan for deets, but suffice it to say, we’re feeding him like the excellent father he is.

Weekly Menu 06.19.22 has some of Bert’s other favorites – Pop’s Crispy Chicken is one, and succotash is another. There are a ton of very involved recipes out there for succotash, but at their base it’s corn and lima beans smothered in butter and maybe a little cream. And that’s how Bert likes it.

We’re having Pork Chops Italiano again, and this time I am sure that I’ll get the post together for these fast, easy, tremendously tasty chops so you, dear reader, can make them yourself. The chops are lightly sautéed then topped with a pan sauce made with a little wine, some bell peppers and some tomatoes. Keep an eye out!
