The holidays continue – this week we say goodbye to 2022. That certainly requires some partying!

NEW YEARS EVE COCKTAILS

Or you can follow along with our menu below for New Years Eve. Ever since the boysies were little, we’ve celebrated with a FRY OUT! Kind of a last gasp on bad for us foods that happen to be delicious. We watch a random movie first, then always finish up with Trading Places. Something about Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd screams New Years to us. Plus it’s educational. (Commodities trading is fascinating.) We slog through (with occasional head nods on the couch) to midnight and watch the ball drop.

GINGER-ALE USUALLY SUBS IN FOR CHAMPAGNE. KEEP IT QUIET.

Bedtime is almost immediately thereafter. We like to celebrate the New Year with some quality snooze time. I’ll make a big brunch on New Years Day and then a lovely Brisket Dinner that night. We used to have Pork and Sauerkraut, which is very traditional for those of us with German heritage. Turns out that no one in the house really likes it too much. Serving a meal everyone turns their nose up at seems like a bad way to start the year.

EVOLVE, NOT RESOLVE

We’re celebrating Christmas First though!

Sunday is our traditional Christmas Dinner with ham and all the best side dishes. As always, I’ve got a Birthday Cake for Baby Jesus on there. It honestly almost never gets made. It’s great in theory, but lord, the cookies are everywhere. I’m almost to the point of craving veggies. Almost.

We’re having classic scalloped potatoes layered with some onion, but a nice savory option with the ham is Scalloped Onions. They make the house smell great while they’re cooking, but a little goes a long way. They are super rich.

We’re skipping the scalloped onions this year and having fabulous French Onion Soup (from the crockpot) instead. Meatless but super filling and fabulous with the cheesy topping.

The family favorite for leftover ham is on the menu with Hot Ham & Cheese Sliders. No leftover ham? No problem – deli ham would sub in great here. We use the leftover dinner rolls and stuff them with thinly sliced ham and a variety of cheeses. Honey Mustard tops the sliders, and we bake the foil wrapped sammies for about 10 minutes in a hot oven. Yum.

Before we get to the slders, we’re having Taco Tuesday to mix things up a little bit. We had Chicken Tacos on the menu a week or so ago, but life intervened, and sadly, we didn’t have it.

Chicken Tacos: Weekly Menu 12.25.22

I’ll cut up chicken breasts into little chunks and sauté them up in our trusty big cast iron pan with some taco seasonings. (Affiliate links precede and follow. See Disclaimer Page for details.) A scant 1/2 cup of water helps create some sauce and keeps the chicken from drying out. Serve the tacos up the same as normal beef tacos with all the fixin’s.

Our Weekly Menu 12.25.22 is full of variety – and some easy dinners. We’re making Meatball Parm on Thursday – I’m craving a little Italian food!
