And… more party days during the Weekly Menu 01.01.23. Champagne is in order for the closing ceremonies.

The Weekly Menu 01.01.23 starts out with a bang – literally. New Years Day is traditionally filled with lucky pageantry, and while our menu this year is a little different, some things don’t change. We do a traditional Sunday Dinner, without too much fanfare, although a glass or two of bubbly won’t go amiss.

Of course, before we get to the first day of 2023, we need to get through another New Years Eve. You can invite a few friends over to keep you awake until midnight with this special menu:

NEW YEARS EVE COCKTAILS

Or you can follow along with our menu below for New Years Eve. When the boys were small, we always had a fry out. I figure, once you get the oil hot in the big pot, you might as well go for it and cook everything in sight. And once a year is about perfect for this splurge. Here’s last years blow out:

This year, we might do something a little different. A variety of pizzas are always a favorite, and the prospect of no oil clean up is enticing. Either way, we’ll be at home this amateur night.

I SLEEP IN ON NEW YEARS DAY. ANYBODY ELSE?

And it has nothing to do with drinking too much. We usually toast with ginger ale. Don’t judge. We do use the good glasses. But we really like to celebrate the New Year with some quality snooze time. And we need it after all this holidaying.

I’ll make a big brunch on New Years Day and then a lovely Roast Beef Dinner that night. We used to have Pork and Sauerkraut, which is very traditional for those of us with German heritage. Turns out that no one in the house really likes it too much. (Including me.) Serving a meal everyone turns their nose up at seems like a bad way to start the year.

I don’t do resolutions – and I don’t think you should either. Read this post to see why.

EVOLVE, NOT RESOLVE

THE NEW YEARS DAY MENU IS FULL OF LUCKY FOODS.

No chicken (because chickens scratch backwards).

BLACK-EYED PEAS, GREENS, AND CORNBREAD

Luck factor: Even folks who aren’t from the Southern United States go all in on eating black-eyed peas and leafy greens for good luck on New Year’s Day. Add a slice of cornbread, and you’ve got “peas for pennies, greens for dollars, and cornbread for gold.”

Allrecipes

And a cake – because round, sweet treats bring a circle of luck to the eaters. Sure, we scoff at superstitions in general, but a little help won’t hurt. Especially this year!

Of course we eat every night during the Weekly Menu 01.01.23~

After we celebrate the big start of 2023, we’re moving onto a few of Baby Boys favorites that he’s requested for eats before he heads back to school. We’re starting him out with Crispy Chicken Clubs, which are super easy and they have bacon. Score! Five ingredient Beef & Black Bean Burritos follow for a super chill Taco Tuesday.

I’ll let you in on a little secret: we’re not making Chicken Wings at home on Wednesday. We’re heading out to our favorite Wing joint/tavern and having a couple cold ones. It’s nice to get back into a little bit of normalcy after the rush of the holidays.

If there are any roast beef leftovers (always a dicey proposition) we’re using it in a new-to-us way with the Philly Cheesesteak Skillet Dinner. It’s low carb and actually calls for leftovers, so it’s worth a shot. And our Sausage Machine will take point on the Sausage Noodle Bowl on Friday. I usually cook the broth in one pot and the noodles in a separate pot so we can all add whatever we want: Bert prefers rice instead of noodles, and I usually add in Zoodles made with my trusty Veggetti.
